20th Annual SKUSA SuperNationals
Las Vegas, NV – For the second year, the SKUSA SuperNationals were front and center in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Drawing racers in from all over the world, including Indy 500 Winner, Alexander Rossi, and Formula 1 pilot, Antonio Perez.
The Supernationals is on many kart racers bucket list. SwedeTech was proud to be represented by over 50 customers who participated in this years event.
The S4 Super Masters group was a strong field with 29 drivers. Robert Marks (Team Visalia / CRG) and Nick Firestone (DR) were in a tight points battle heading into this event. Both drivers had to keep clean and finish all their heats to earn points for the Pro Tour Championship, but they were also gunning for the elusive SuperNationals Champion trophy. When the checkered flag flew for the final time, Robert Marks edged out Nick Firestone by 0:00.145 seconds, taking home the SuperNationals and Pro Tour Championships.
The S4 Masters group also had a tight battle. Ryan Kinnear also (Champion Intrepid) needed clean weekend for the overall points chase, and was able to drive to a clean race, finishing third in the main event, which secured his National championship. The final results were shaken up when two laps from the finish, a huge pile up in the S section took out a large pack of top ten drivers. Rob Logan (Nash CRG), Jimmy McNeil (Team Visalia CRG), and Michael Patrizi (PSL Ricciardo) were casualties of this incident, removing any hopes of a podium spot.
The S2 group has had solid participation all year long, and for this event, topped out with 45 entries. At the end of the day, a championship spoiler had entered the mix. Mathias Ramirez (Birel Art) had one objective, and that was the SuperNationals trophy. He did not participate in the Pro Tour events, so he was not in contention for the overall championship. However, he did win the SuperNationals and placed his name on a very short list of past winners. Hunter Pickett (Pickett Racing Aluminos) was a front runner all weekend long, but was penalized 10 starting spots in the main event. Determined to claw his way back to the front, Hunter was able to round out the final podium spot in fifth place.
The S1 drivers are the Stock Moto Pros, and they did not disappoint. All weekend long, three drivers consistently raced back and forth, two of them powered by SwedeTech Racing Engines. When the racing action ended, TB Karts AJ Myers finished a mere 00:00.274 seconds behind the winner, closely followed by Jake French (DKC Sodi). Shifter Rookie, Jake Craig (Ryan Perry Motorsports) finished an impressive Sixth place, besting 19 other veteran shifter pilots.
The 20th Edition of the SKUSA SUPERNATIONALS was a great event for the SwedeTech staff. With two class wins and two National championships, the hard work seemed to be rewarded. It is also a great time to visit with our customers and share in their racing experiences.
